Overview
Affordable Medicines For Africa (AMFA) continuously strives to advance the effective distribution of medicines and pharmaceutical supplies on the African continent. Based in Johannesburg, South Africa since 1997, AMFA operates as a social outreach program partner with Hollard Insurance Group, South Africa's largest independent insurance company. From Johannesburg, AMFA serves sub-Saharan Africa with quality, competitively priced pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, uncompromisingly committed to customer service excellence.
However, AMFA's goal transcends the provision of essential generic medicines at an affordable price. While constantly working to source medicines at lower costs, AMFA seeks to reduce the time between order placement and order delivery. Streamlined supply chain management systems greatly reduce operating costs. By cutting the hidden costs inherent in the common African logistics model, AMFA delivers an even greater value proposition for healthcare providers throughout the continent.
In a vote of affirmation regarding the developing world's ability to deliver quality solutions and address its own challenges, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) has awarded a contract to strengthen the supply of essential drugs and supplies for people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases in developing countries, in support of the President's Plan for Emergency AIDS Relief (the Emergency Plan). AMFA is part of the winning team called The Partnership for Supply Chain Management, a consortium of 15 separate organisations from the private sector, non-profit and faith-based community. It is well connected to existing delivery and purchasing systems in the developing world.
To ensure quality, AMFA sources products from WHO approved and GMP certified pharmaceutical manufacturers in Africa. In addition, AMFA employs the services of the Centre for Quality Assurance of Medicines (CENQAM), also a member of The Partnership for Supply Chain Management, to conduct independent quality tests of medicines for product efficacy and stability. CENQAM, located in Potchefstroom, South Africa, is a leading WHO-designated testing laboratory in sub-Saharan Africa with ISO 9002 certification.
